Award Winner: Worlée receives Responsible Care Prize for SMEs

The German Chemical Industry Association honors Worlée-Chemie for its dedicated efforts in the areas of environmental and health protection.

Last Friday, Worlée was once again chosen to receive a Responsible Care Prize: after its project “Product responsibility and the pursuit of sustainability according to Responsible Care Guidelines 4 and 7” already won the regional contest, the family company has now received the Responsible Care Prize for small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the national level.

In the annual Responsible Care competition of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), an independent jury of five evaluates chemical and pharmaceutical companies in the six key areas of product responsibility, environmental protection, occupational safety and health protection, facility safety and hazard protection, transport safety and social dialogue.

Germany has taken part in the international Responsible Care program for 25 years. In its anniversary year, the competition featured the theme “25 years of responsible care – Our best project”. As a first step, the regional VCI organizations selected winners within individual federal states and areas. The jury then chose one victor among these companies for each key area to win the Responsible Care Prize at the national level and in the extra category SME. Worlée’s project was rated as “outstanding” and thus received the “Responsible Care Prize for SMEs”.

For years, Worlée has dedicated much time and effort in the area of sustainability, devoting itself to health and environmental protection as well as to the safety of employees and its neighborhood. At its facility in Lauenburg, production processes have been optimized in cross-departmental teams for years and adjusted to employ environmentally-friendly raw materials in order to minimize resource usage. By using ecological alternatives, the family company has already been able to reduce its use of solvent by one third. The jury particularly praised the fact that Worlée has long established itself as an SME that strives for sustainable production and ecological products.

Jan Eschke, Energy and Environmental Manager of Worlée-Chemie GmbH, is visibly proud of the prize. “The subject of “sustainability” has been embedded in our company philosophy for decades. For us, it’s not just about being drawn into a trend. Our daily motivation is all about being a part of bringing about the mega-trend of sustainable products while maintaining social standards and, further, offering real benefits for our employees. We are pleased that these social and ecological efforts are being recognized on a national level – that shows us that we are on the right path.”
