Worlée hosts “Industry Week“ event

Last Saturday, the Lauenburg facility opened its doors as part of the “Industry Week”.

With the theme “Sustainability in the chemical industry”, Worlée opened up its factory gates on 24 September 2016, giving invited visitors the chance to get to know the chemical company better.

Students, teachers, regional politicians and young chemists were among the numerous attendees. The participants did not just come from neighboring towns, but also traveled to Worlée from Bremen, Rostock, Kiel or Hamburg in order to take part in this event.

After a brief greeting on the part of managing director Joachim Freude, participants were given the opportunity to not just discover the most modern technology and processes, but also to hear expert lectures on subjects such as sustainability, climate and environmental protection as well as sustainable product development in the industry. As a follow-up discussion, Worlée employees held a question and answer session. Participants were particularly interested to learn that Worlée works with partners to cultivate its own camelina plants with the aim of producing oil in a renewable raw resource form. This project has not taken any space otherwise used for the cultivation of food plants and does not require clearing new agricultural lands by means such as deforestation. The visitors were very enthusiastic about this project and Worlée’s use of raw materials for coatings based on renewable resources.

The lecture “Training and Young Employee Development” was also very well-received. Worlée outlined its dedication to training the young employees of tomorrow with the intention of being clearly perceived in the region as an attractive employer and training facility.

In conclusion, production manager Thorsten Gehring, along with with energy and environmental manager Jan Eschke, led the visitors on a tour through the facility. In this way, Worlée invited its guests into the exciting world of industry and demonstrated that a chemical company’s activities can focus on both success and sustainability.

Participation in the “Industry Week” initiative was a clear choice from the beginning for Worlée, as was using this opportunity to highlight the significance of the company for the region. Barbara Eschke, coordinator of integrated management systems/sustainability management, drew positive conclusions from the event: “For the first time we have been part of the “Industry Week” initiative and we are very pleased about the enthusiastic response level. Today, our guests were not just regional politicians, but also teachers from local schools as well as young talent. It is particularly important to us to show the skilled employees of tomorrow that sustainability and the chemical industry do indeed fit together well. As a company that actively promotes sustainability, we have combined tradition and innovation for decades and we consider the future with every step we take.”
