Worlée NaturProdukte GmbH joins the Union of Ethical Biotrade (UEBT)

The North German medium-sized company is intensifying its commitment in the area of "sustainability".

As a family-run company, Worlée strives to conduct its business in a sustainable and socially responsible manner.  Thus, Worlée joined the Suppliers Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex) in 2009, and since then, has successfully passed audits according to the 4-Pillars of the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) repeatedly. However, as part of the global food network, it is Worlée's responsibility to improve environmental and social conditions not only at Worlée's headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, but also in the countries where the raw materials originate from.

Thus, the hamburg company joined the Union of Ethical Biotrade (UEBT) in 2018, a non-profit organization which engages in promoting sustainable sourcing strategies with an emphasis on biodiversity conservation and social responsibility. As a member, Worlée is commited to implementing an ethical sourcing system and adopting ethical sourcing strategies.

This has been achieved so far:
Worlée selected several of its supply chains for certification according to the “UEBT/UTZ-Certified Herbal Tea Program” and successfully passed the certification for the first supply chain in 2018. Furthermore, the company introduced the Worlée Code of Behavior in 2016, which is based on the principles and values of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) code of conduct, and request suppliers to comply with this code. In 2017 and 2018, Worlée conducted several sustainability audits and initiated training sessions for its suppliers.

The goals for 2019 are to:
•    include further supply chains in the UEBT/UTZ-Certified Herbal Tea Program,
•    continue communicating the Worlée Code of Behavior with suppliers,
•    conduct sustainability audits,
•    initiate training sessions at suppliers, and
•    develop biodiversity action plans for our suppliers.
