Trees planting to celebrate the day of German unity

A tree planting campaign in the Lauenburg industrial area for climate protection.

The state of Schleswig-Holstein has launched a new tradition in the form of "Einheitsbuddeln" on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of German reunification in 2019. The motto of the tree planting campaign was: "Imagine everyone in Germany planting a tree on 3 October. 83 million. Every year. A new forest. For the climate. And for you and your family. For our future". In Schleswig-Holstein more than 66,000 trees were planted at the beginning of October, nationwide there were about 105,000.

Worlée-Chemie GmbH participated somewhat belatedly but nevertheless: On 22 October, the medium-sized company planted ten trees on its property in the Lauenburg industrial estate. Ten employees equipped with rubber boots and spades supported the campaign. The planted wild apple (malus sylvestris) is particularly valuable because its ecological value is particularly high. They play a major role in preserving biodiversity and promoting biodiversity. In spring the flowers are popular as "bee pasture" with insects and in autumn the fruits are often eaten by wild animals. In addition, this species of wild apple is endangered, which is one of the reasons why it was named "Tree of the Year" in 2013.

The idea to participate in the nationwide campaign came from the staff and immediately met with the interest of the management. An organisation team quickly came together and in cooperation with the tree nursery "Aurea" the "right" tree was found. The employees were also eager to dig and plans for the tree planting campaign next year were already being forged. "We think the Schleswig-Holstein project is fantastic. We are not only doing our part for the region, but also for the environment", says Joachim Freude, Managing Director of Worlée-Chemie, who himself helped out on site.
