Today, Friday, May 15, 2020, a fire broke out at the eastern plant of Worlée-Chemie GmbH in Lauenburg at about 7.30 a.m. for reasons as yet unknown. The automatic safety devices immediately triggered the alarm. Fire brigades and rescue services from Lauenburg were on site within a very short time. The plant was evacuated. The plant fire brigade of the Krümmel nuclear power plant supported the fire-fighting operations with foam agents.

The Lauenburg plant management and the managing partner of the Worlée Group, Reinhold von Eben-Worlée, are deeply affected. Their sympathy also goes to the employee who witnessed the outbreak of the fire at close range and suffered a shock. He is under medical treatment. But he says he is doing well. They regret that the fire and the cloud of smoke over the plant is causing concern among the local population and restricting the operations of the companies in the industrial estate.

As soon as the fire is under control and extinguished, the investigation into the cause of the fire will begin. At this point in time, no information can be given about the extent of the damage.

The plant management assumes that production at the East plant will be out of action for some time. According to initial estimates, operations at the West plant can be continued.

Further information will follow this afternoon. We will keep you informed.
